Horsemanship is available for all Ranch and Ridge campers and must be at least 6 years old. This is not available for Island campers.
The Horsemenship Program caters to individuals wanting to expand their knowledge on horse care and riding opportunities. Whether they are a beginner or already trained in horseback riding, the Horsemanship Program is an incredible experience for those who want to further their horsemanship experience.
The Horsemanship classes are four 75 minute classes. The camper will be taught basic horse care, grooming, tacking, and western riding per CHA standards.
Classes are split into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes to best cater to each camper’s skill level. All riders are required to wear long pants and closed toed shoes, any rider under the age of 18 is required to wear a helmet (Word of Life provides the helmets).
Additional information that is taught would be horse anatomy and health, horse behaviors, colors and markings, parts of a saddle, and more.
In the event of rain, the camper will attend a barn class where they will learn facts about horses and the care for one included how to tack a horse.
